It has been a long week at the Savener house. As most of you have probably heard by now, Kirby has been diagnosed with severe anemia. The doctors currently think the anemia is stemming from a series of viruses that have begun breaking down his red blood cells. Everything else with his labs are normal - so, we're just hoping his hemoglobin levels start going up - soon! If not, he will have to have a blood transfusion. We hopefully will know more tomorrow when his Doctor in Iowa City gets back in.
We went to the emergency room on Tuesday for what we thought was dehydration. You can see the picture of the feeding tube that they had to use after 4 people, 7 pokes, and almost 120 minutes of trying they could not get an IV in. The next day, they needed blood and after 1 poke, and seeing all the other war wounds, they opted for the scalp draw. They bandaged him up like a pumpkin.
Not really much else is new. Kirby is not supposted to go to daycare this week so we'll be busy juggling babysitters, work schedules, and we're sure Dr.'s appointments. We think he is feeling a little better since you can see he's picked up walking again - which he'd given up for a couple weeks when he started getting sick. Please keep him in your thoughts, and pray for his hemoglobin to go up on it's own.

I hope Kirby is doing OK. It was really nice seeing you all and I had no idea the little guy was that sick. Uncle Kevin and I are hoping for nothing but the best for all of you.
Love, Aunt Lori
We didn't know Kirby was that sick until we got home. He is getting better. I'll update the blog soon.
