Mom says it is time for a few picts of me since I am getting to be such a big boy. She has been a slacker this summer. Next weekend (Labor Day) mom and dad are going 4 wheeling in Ashland, WI. I will miss them, but I think mom will miss me more.
I know many of you are wondering how my blood issues are coming along. Mom hasn't put any of that business on the blog either! The doctors are pretty sure it is spherocytosis (click here for the definition). The doctors think mom's, dad's, and my chromosomes have mutated to form the disorder. Doc V. told them they have a better chance of winning the lottery than having a child with this problem. Mom says she is going to start buying powerball! However, there is still a small chance it is an auto-immune disorder.
I have been getting transfusions about once a month since May. I was supposed to have my entire spleen removed after I turn 2. Removing my spleen will fix me if it is the spherocytosis and it fixes about 70% of the autoimmune cases. Since I've had so many transfusions this year, Dr. V doesn't think we can wait until December. My surgery will probably be in October in Iowa City.
At my next transfusion, which we hope will be after Labor Day mom & dad are going to meet w/Doc V. They are going to start making a plan then. They say they need to get it scheduled so we can just quit wondering.
Catch you after the holiday!!!
P.S. For all of you who gave to the sock drive, click on the link to the right on Uncle Joe. There is a pay it forward video of the sock drive.
